Deloitte Consulting LLP Becomes a Leading Sponsor of University of Arkansas 'RFID' Research Laboratory
Deloitte's Wireless & Sensor Solutions Services Offering Teams With Industry Leaders and Top Technology Vendors Sponsor Research on RFID Solutions
NEW YORK, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte Consulting LLP ("Deloitte Consulting") today announced its participation as a strategic sponsor in the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Research Center at the University of Arkansas' Information Technology Research Institute of the Sam M. Walton College of Business.
Chris Hook, co-leader of Deloitte Consulting's Wireless and Sensor Solutions Services, a new service offering that helps businesses and industries transition to the emerging Pervasive Computing environment, will serve on the Center's Advisory Board, which is chartered with providing direction for research conducted at the Center. Hook brings more than 20 years' experience in the development and application of RFID and automatic data capture systems.
"Deloitte Consulting's participation with the University of Arkansas RFID Research Center provides enormous opportunities to exchange ideas with industry leaders, logistics service providers and global technology companies, all of whom are committed to driving the adoption of RFID and other wireless and sensor technologies," Hook said. "Deloitte Consulting's deep knowledge of technologies and operations, in several industries, aligns perfectly with the expertise other Center sponsors are contributing to this exciting venture. I am delighted that Deloitte Consulting is participating in this initiative."
"Deloitte Consulting's sponsorship of the University's RFID Center will effectively position it to help clients, across industries, find and implement the right RFID and other wireless solutions for their businesses," said Ed Carey, Vice Chairman and National Managing Partner of U.S. Industries at Deloitte & Touche USA LLP.
The RFID Research Center is an independent "live-environment" laboratory developed for the creation and dissemination of RFID knowledge across industries and supply chain fields. Research will focus on ease of deployment, scalability and adaptability of RFID systems to enhance utility and performance. Though driving the adoption of RFID in supply chain applications is the declared initial focus of the Center's applied research activities, this research will be performed in the broader context of wireless and sensor technologies, used across industries.
Unlike some other RFID labs, the Center has no vested interest in the use or implementation of any one type of technology over another. As a neutral third-party research and testing facility, companies will have an unbiased environment to complete RFID, wireless and sensor technology testing.
Doug Standley, highly experienced co-leader of Deloitte Consulting's Wireless and Sensor Solution Services, summarized Deloitte Consulting's involvement in the Center, stating, "The initial vision for this relationship centers around the need for a trusted independent resource for confirmation of the physical layer attributes associated with any application of these technologies. We are confident that this facility accomplishes this and may provide significant additional value to strategic client initiatives."
Standley adds, "As a firm, Deloitte is uniquely qualified to capture a high percentage of our clients demand for these services by leveraging our multidisciplinary strengths in an unbiased advisory capacity."
"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to build real world solutions for supply chain issues with Deloitte," says Walton College Dean Doyle Z. Williams. "The Center will serve as a conduit for Deloitte Consulting and other leading companies to share research and test the latest RFID technology."
The RFID Research Center is located in Hanna's Candle Company facility, another sponsor of the Center. The 7,800 square foot laboratory contains the latest RFID technology, including tags, antennas, readers and conveyance systems from a variety of vendors.
